Sally Doig was a student at Camberwell College of Art when Harlow Art Trust commissioned her to produce Wrestlers from a maquette exhibited at her degree show. Finished in a bright salmon pink, now faded, Wrestlers was first sited outside the original Sports Centre, then at St John ‘s Arc in Old Harlow, and lately moved to the Gibberd Gallery to protect it from further deterioration. It is made of ciment fondu, a material made popular in the 1930s by sculptors like Henry Moore and Leon Underwood, but little used today.
