Lynn Chadwick (1944-2003) first came to prominence as one of the twelve semi-finalists for the Unknown Political Prisoner International Sculpture Competition in 1953. Ten years later in 1963, Trigon was bought by Maurice Ash, chairman of the Town and Country Planning Association on behalf of Harlow Art Trust. The sculpture possesses something of the haunting, passive energy of the Easter Island figures much admired by Chadwick. It stands in the original location of Rodin’s Eve, which is now in the Water Gardens.
