Leah Manning Mural

Christopher Dean was born in 1955 and patronised by Sir Frederick Gibberd as a young sculptor. Leah Manning – who gives her name to this sculpture and day care centre for elderly residents – was an influential educationalist, social reformer and Labour MP for Harlow from 1945-1950. She was notably instrumental in the evacuation of around 3800 children out of war-torn Bilbao to Britain in 1937.
